Team - Callum, Ollie, Kai, Ash, Evie, Xander, Brad, Chris, Rahim and Sean.
Our friends from Yaxley were our very first visitors to our new pitches in Cardea however the occasion didn't get the better of them in the first half. Yaxley did really well on the counter attacks and were brilliant at sneaking passed our defence line several times and we really struggled to get any rhythm to our game. We sat very deep in our own half pretty much inviting Yaxley to play their game in front of our goal. Yaxley were duly rewarded with a great goal not long into the game and it was clear we needed to keep our heads high.
We soon equalised through Ash as we found our game however made it difficult for ourselves by again sitting back instead of playing an attacking game. Yaxley were chomping on our heels however we soon got our second through Ash again which some might was against the run of play. Yaxley were not pleased by the scoreline and got a great equaliser just before half time.
Our half time team talk was very much about what we thought we could do to improve our game and start playing attacking football, while holding a solid defence and all the players knew this without being told. We started the second half a bit better however Yaxley got the better start and went ahead. We decided to make some subs and move players into slightly different positions to see if that would improve our game and it wasn't long before Rahim got us our third goal. From this point on we really did switch on and finally started pressing forward with the ball and passing it more confidently. Whether Yaxley ran out of steam or simply couldn't keep up with our tempo we don't know but Pumas started playing the football that we see on the training pitch. We were seeing some great chances from outside the area and we were right on the attack from each goal kick. It didn't take long for Chris to add to the scoreline with a great finish on following through on an earlier shot. Sean joined the scoresheet within minutes with a great strike from outside the box. Just before the whistle Chris again added his second to the game.
This game really was a game of two halves. We played so much more different than we did in the first half and we are bursting with pride at the great game they played and the determined attitude the players had right to the end.
Thanks again to all the parents for all your cheering on and to those who helped get the kit back into storage. Its very much appreciated.
