PUMAS V RIVERSIDE IN PRE SEASON MATCHUP

PUMAS V RIVERSIDE IN PRE SEASON MATCHUP

Ciaran McAuley29 Aug 2014 - 13:14

Pumas travelled to meet old friend from Riverside for this annual pre-season game

Pumas U10 Red start of the pre-season a little later than usual this year due to holidays and work committments getting in the way. We welcomed new additions to the team for this game and thank the volunteers from Stuarts U10 Black side for coming along to help us out with numbers.

A new format for the lads to get used to x2 periods of 25 mins as opposed to the x4 quarters of 10mins last season. This caught a few guys out on both teams with regard to that extra bit of fitness required to get through to half time and hold through the second half. But another new thing that the lads need to get used to.

Curran started in goal for us - his last game between the sticks for the team as he embarks on a new challenge with our new U10 Blue side out on the pitch where I am sure he will flourish as a footballer as he did in the second half when he came onto the pitch. Thank you Curran for all your efforts with the team over the last year.

We also had an impresive debut from Tai Canizarro (guarenteed I will continue to get that spelling wrong) on the right hand side of midfield. Strong running and determination throughout.

Adrian took on the central midfield duties and looked a cultured young footballer, even at 9 years old culminating in a great 25 yard strick that wowed the watching coaches and parents alike - a great performance.

Ethan on the left of midfield got a little caught out by the halves rather than quarters but a thoroughly solid performance with some really powerful forays forward and shots into the Riverside box. Great stuff bud.

Our usual duo at the back were superb for this game Flynn held the ball really well and distribution was exccellent. He also put a few tackles in as well which has been a little lacking in last seasons games whihc was great to see. Ethan C was captin on the day and had a sterling performance. Strong running forward with pace, great long throws, breaking up play and effective distribution of the ball.

Alfie started as our lone man up front. Took a bit of time to get into the game but a few solid tackles set him up for improvement in the second half.

Ewan stepped between the sticks in the second half and had some loveley distribution passes and throws but the nick one passed him after just slipping away from the catch under pressure.

A decent run out and we were missing 4 of our regulars so a good performance against a decnt young Riverside team, Well done boys & thank you for all your efforts in pre- season - hers to another great year for our team - GO PUMAS!!!
