We started with Oliver in Goal, Flynn & Ethan at the back, Craig, Ethan & Tai across the middle and Jack as our fox in the box up front. Oliver on the bench this week and we were missing Alifie for this game.
Hampton were an amalgamation of the old Farcet team and a few new lads that certainly made them look stronger than last season in the centre of midfield. But they found it very difficult to cope with the power on show from captain Craig today which was evident with the pressure that the midfield and forward Jack had put on resulting in Jack capitalizing with an opportunistic strike to to open his account for the day.
Craig continued to run the show in midfield and a mazey run that saw him take on the majority of the Hampton teams was finished with aplomb with a superb strike passed the outstretched Hampton keepers hands. A great goal to light up any game!!
Ethan and Flynn at the back had a solid day but I think they would both say that they could control the ball a bit more rather than clearances. This was evident when a ball broke to Flynn took control of a Hampton clearance and lofted a ball straight up the middle - was it a pass, was it a shot - either way the bounce took the ball over the keepers head - well done Flynn.
Ethan on the left too started with a few Holywood type passes but once the confidence was flowing he was away and flying up the wing, ghosting passed players and setting up two goals for the very grateful Jack either side of halftime. A thoroughly solid performance buddy - well done, some debate on Jacks goal in the second half but I have to confirm it came off JAcks studs & into the goal - sorry Ethan lol.
Oliver and Tai swapped wing play roles throughout the game. Tai showed some real promise when having the ball at his feet, taking on players galore going forward, some work needed going back but Tais day was cruelly brought to an end with a pull on the back of his knee. A decent show Tai & we all hope you are ok for next week - get well soon!!
Oliver, in only his second ever game put in a good stint but said he struggled a little to keep up with things. I think he was a little harsh on himself with some good running and tackling that will stand him in good stead for the rest of the season.
The twins had somewhat contrasting days. With all due respect to Hampton we spent most of the game encamped in the Hampton half which meant Oliver had very little to do. Concentration levels are vital for goalkeepers and but for one little lapse in the first half Oliver did this superbly with saves in both the first and second halves that made the team feel very secure. It feels like Oli has been there forever as he has really grown into the role.
Jack on the other hand was busy all day - bagging 4 goals including the customary 3-4 yard finishes after great midfield support but he also netted a 20 yard daisy cutter into the bottom right corner. A really could show of forward play.
All in all a good performance but when we spoke at the end all of the lads to a player felt they had more to give and we should target some more teamwork and passing to go with the great power already on show in the team. Well done boys!! GO PUMAS!!!
