Blues vrs Reds - Two of our Young U10 sides match up in this PJAL fixture

We lined up today with our usual formation. Alfie, Captain for the day, after a good performance last week brought the side together for a good team talk before the game. We knew that the blues had performed well last week and also how well they had come together under Ryan & Darren's tutelage in. recent weeks, so the fixture definitely commanded the boys attention and respect

We started with Oli in goal, Ethan & Flynn at the back, Alfie, Craig and Ethan across the middle with Jack up front. From the start the reds to the initiative, usually unlike us as we feel our way into the game but the midfield hunted in packs and the ball broke for Jack to poke the ball passed the Blues keeper.

This was the order of the first half with the Reds putting lots of energy into a powerful game, driving forward through the midfield, carrying the ball through our skillful midfielders. Resulting in wave after wave of reds attacking. For the most part the blues repelled these through some superb goalkeeping in the first half coupled with some finishing that the reds felt they could have improved on.

The second half saw the reds come out with a bit of a change in tactics - we were hoping to move the ball a little faster, thereby letting the ball do the work with Jack on the end of final pass. Several players took up this mantel - Tai had a stint in the middle as did Ethan but Craig showed he could add to his power game with two or three lovely passes through to set up opportunities for Jack.

We also had great movement when Tai moved back out to the wing and popped up in the middle after a nice one two with Alfie produced a great team goal. Ethan W probably had the individual goal of the day with a great second half winding run down the left, using pace and power to get passed defenders and driving a left foot strike that the blues goalkeeper struggled to hold on to.

A very good performance from the reds but to a player they all said they have more to give which is really pleasing from a coaches point of view. A great attitude and we look good to progress in the games we have coming up. If the lads can continue to add the teamwork to the power game they have going our reds will really be a great force to be reckoned with this season - GO PUMAS !!
