As usual we split the game into 4 quarters to ensure the players all get a good run and also to make sure they get scheduled breaks to recover.
The first quarter saw a very nervous start from the Pumas. Probably due to the fact that this was an away fixture and a new environment for the players to cope with. All good learning for them though as we will have several away fixtures in the coming weeks and months. The first quarter saw us get a little confused about our positional awareness (basically where we should be on the field of play). Which unfortunately left our very promising young keeper Max Mcloughlin exposed in goal resulting in Yaxley going out into a 3 goal lead.
A quick chat, a few changes and the second quarter saw some real improvement. Tommy Johnson came on and was one the hunt for the ball from the outset, this allowed Jedden Roddis, Flynn Mc Auley and Harry Aristidou to break forward on numerous occasions. This pattern continued with great displays and continuous improvement across the whole team in the second and third quarters leading to goals from Jedden, Harry, Flynn and Samuel Neath. This improvement was in the face of continued attacks from a strong Yaxley side that were repelled by ever strong defensive displays from Skye Hemmingway-Gibbs and Daniel Seymour and in the last quarter by Louis Mulcahy who put in a couple of great last ditch tackles that kept Yaxley at bay for the most part . When they did make it through Max came up with three superb saves. But an excellent run and shot from Yaxley’s best players put a couple past the industrious Pumas side.
The result to be fair was very close but from point of view the most relevant measure of the day was the dramatic improvement of the team from the first quarter through to the fourth. A great effort from our young Puma cubs and a great marker to show the improvement that they are all going through week by week. Congratulations to them all. We will be trying to arrange more games in the coming weeks and months – keep that improvement going lads – GO PUMAS!!!!
