At last, the time arrived for Park Farm Pumas youngest team to walk on pitch with official league status. After a Summer of training fun and a few friendlies with neighbouring teams, Adam Barnard’s and Jodi Loasby's team of nine was excited to play their first game of their first season. And what a thriller it turned out to be! The Pumas took instant possession of the ball, leaving the opposing Peterborough Northern Star fighting throughout the 40 minute game. Player 10, Jacob Evans, set precedent with oodles of energy and a couple of keen attempts at a goal. Player 8, Harry Walker, found his confidence but lost his boot, distracting the other side and setting up Team Captain, Ollie Terrell, to run on from the sub’s bench and secure the team’s first official goal. A handball in the second quarter meant Walker, boots tightly tethered, could land the ball in the back of the net, to the delight of his family. Player 7, Kaleb Barnard honed his throwing technique and set up an almost-perfect cross and strike. The ball missed the post by millimetres, but the Pumas didn’t need to wait too long; goal number 3 followed at the start of the third quarter thanks to an unfortunate own goal that limped over the line despite Northern Star’s improved defence. Minutes later, Evans’ earlier efforts were rewarded with two goals in a row. Player 5, Zach Attia, showed tenacity with forward support from Lewis Preston in shirt number 3. The excitement continued into the final quarter with two more goals from nippy number 9, Jacob Pickering, whose goals sandwiched a super score from player 6, Tayo Dehimbo. A tough round for the opposing side who nonetheless kept Pumas goalie, Lucas Loasby, on his toes. Gooooooo Pumas!
