Veterans are 2 for 2 as they win the PDFL Veterans Plate !

That's right ...... 2 finals and 2 cups brought home by the "old men" of the club !

Our vets did the whole club proud on Tuesday night under the floodlights at Yaxley's TooJays stadium. But they had to work extremely hard against an excellent Eunice Huntingdon side.

The two teams had met in the Hunts FA County Cup final earlier in April with Pumas coming out the victors. Tuesday game was a very similar affair.

Pumas were unfortunately up against it as they had lost their regular GK and then our left wing Mark Antonucci had to leave due to a family emergency just before kick off. This may have unsettled the plans as Pumas looked a little disjointed on the wide pitch.

Eunice kept targeting their left wing where they were getting lots of success and before we know it Pumas were 2-0 down. Pumas managed to pull one back before the break with a great strike from Andre and started to rally. Then into the 2nd half and we equalised and there looked to be only one team in it. But Again Eunice came back and scored to make it 3-2. Pumas pushed to get back but in the haste left the door open and it was 4-2.

The substantial support from Pumas thought that might be the end the lads on the field re-doubled their efforts, putting the pressure on and we got a corner with Danny Hall rising like a salmon to nod the ball past the outstretched had of the keeper !!

The Pumas faithful went NUTS !!!

We could see Eunice were flagging and then with only a few moments of the game remaining we got the equalising goal with Gerard picking up his 2nd of the game.

The final whistle and the dreaded penalty shootout was the only way these two teams could be separated. The crowd was hushed - Eunice stepped up and our stand in keeper Karlos sprung into action to make the first of two fantastic saves !!

This then meant that Andre had his pen to win the shootout - he steps up and SCORES !!!!

PUMAS WIN & the crowd went ballistic!

Coach Martin said at the end ".... we made hard work of that, but in cup finals its all about the result. These lads have been fantastic all season. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach them to two cup successes."

Martin went on to say ".... I have to have a special mention for the fantastic support we have had at both cup finals. This club is special, the people involved at every level are special. We have something here that only other clubs can dream of and that togetherness has seen us through and helped us get over the line .... Thank you all & Up the PUMAS !!!!"

What a fantastic result for the club.

We now have anothe 2 cup finals to look forward to with our U12 Blacks and our U14 Reds both in League cup finals in the next few weeks. So we have our fingers crossed for more success - good luck to all teams !!!
