WHAT A NIGHT !!!
Over 200 people turned out to watch the game, with a big percentage of those in the Pumas lads corner !!
A fantastic night for the U15s saw the boys bring the trophy back to the Pumas Lair after a tense and thrilling 6-5 win in a penalty shoot out after the game finished 1-1.
The game itself was a typical final with both teams nervous to take risks. Despite Pumas coming out the traps fast and spending long periods in the Deeping half of the pitch they struggled to convert. Deeping then attack and managed to score in the first half.
It was a hard fought contest in the midfield with neither team giving any quarter. Humberto, Daniel, Caleb, Daniel and Oliver were working their socks off !! Unfortunately one challenge went a little too far for the match official and led to the Deeping player being dismissed from the game just before half time.
This provided some Pumas some more opportunity to penetrate into the Deeping half and wave after wave of Pumas attacked come and went without a goal. Then enter Super-Sub & Man of the match Jerimiah !
"Jerry" worked tirelessly to put the Deeping defenders under pressure and after a fantastic through ball from Adam he latched onto the bounce ball and lobbed it over the keepers head ! - What a finish 1-1!!
The attacks kept coming as Pumas pushed on for the winner. But we had to be careful not to expose ourselves at the back where Joe & Big Ash kept things well under control and Luca, who must've pushed Jerry close for MOM gave us both cover and an attacking option from deep. But despite all our efforts and a late great save from the Deeping keeper to keep out a right foot strike from Daniel the final whistle sounded - 1-1!
The game ended and went straight to penalties ..... and what penalties they were. Not one Puma player missed ! - each one slotted in the corner or powered past the outstretch hand of the Deeping goalkeeper. Eventually we cam to Deepings 6th penalty and our Captain and GK Noah managed to stick an outstretch leg to the right and deflect the shot onto the post and away !
The crowd went NUTS and the boys sprinted into the box to celebrate a memorable win for this fantastic group of lads. They have worked so hard all season and put in some fantastic performances.
Coach Ciaran McAuley commented ".... the lads deserve every second of this win. Both them and their parents have been so supportive of what we have been trying to do this year and this is the reward. I am so very proud of each and every one of the lads that have got us here. We are building for the future and this is a huge stepping stone and a great memory for these lads to cherish for years to come !"
